Meet Marty Sawyer

Marty Sawyer has over 38 years of experience in public service.​ He is ready on Day 1 to be Aiken County's next Sheriff.

In 1985, Marty joined the G.V.W. Volunteer Fire Department. In 2000, he departed with the rank of Captain.

 

Marty started as a Public Safety Officer at the Aiken Department of Public Safety in 1989, where he worked in the patrol division for eight years. After assignments in the Special Operations and Narcotics divisions and the ATF Rage Task Force, Marty was promoted to Captain of Investigations in 2012. His duties currently include supervising adult and juvenile investigations, narcotic investigations, victim services, property and evidence, and school resource officers.

Marty has received numerous awards and recognition for his exemplary service, including the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association Medal of Valor (2012) and CSRA Narcotics Officer of the Year. The Aiken Department of Public Safety has recognized Marty with the Medal of Valor (2012), Distinguished Service Award (2015), and Officer of the Year (1994). Additionally, Marty was selected in 2016 to attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, which is known worldwide for its premier training for law enforcement. 

Marty and his wife Kimberly have two daughters and are members of St. Johns United Methodist Church in Aiken.
